Rabat – Head of the Moroccan government Aziz Akhannouch joined world leaders in celebrating the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at a lavish reception hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at the Élysée Palace on Friday.
Representing King Mohammed VI, Akhannouch was among a distinguished gathering of heads of state and government officials who gathered to mark the start of the sporting spectacle. He was accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitail.
The Prime Minister’s visit to the French capital comes on the heels of his participation in the “Sports and Sustainable Development” summit.
Organized by the French Presidency and the International Olympic Committee, the event brought together global figures to discuss strategies for using sports as a catalyst for positive change.
Leaders explored initiatives in areas such as education, health, equality, and environmental sustainability. The aim was to identify ways in which the Olympic movement can be a force for good in communities around the world.
The summit was a convergence point for global leaders, athletes, and development finance experts, aiming to address pivotal issues in sports and sustainability.
Discussions centered around five major themes, including education and employment, health and nutrition, equality and inclusion, financing and impact measurement, and sustainability and legacy.
This summit highlighted the Olympic Games as a platform for promoting sustainable development and social progress, emphasizing the role of sports in driving positive change. The dialogue underlined the need for collaborative efforts to enhance the impact of sports beyond the athletic arena.
The Paris 2024 Olympics mark a historic moment for the French capital, which previously hosted the Games in 1900 and 1924. This year’s event is the first Summer Olympics since the Tokyo Games were postponed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
