Rabat – Haiti coach Sebastien Migne said he is aware that his team is already eliminated but remains determined, insisting that he and his players need to make their supporters proud during the World Cup game against Morocco.
The coach’s remarks came a few days before Morocco’s final group-stage match, which will be against Haiti on Wednesday.
After their loss to Brazil, Haiti became the first team to be announced eliminated from the global tournament. Now three teams are confirmed to be eliminated, including Turkey and Tunisia.
Haiti’s coach regretted his team’s elimination after Scotland’s defeat against Morocco on Friday.
“But it has been 52 years since we took part in the World Cup. It’s something that we need to keep in mind. We will respect the fans. I know that the players, I can trust them. Even though we were very disappointed, even though we lost to Brazil,” the coach said.
Despite the defeat, Migne sees the upcoming match against Morocco as an opportunity to make fans proud.
“And five days from now, (we play Morocco), a semi-finalist from the last edition, and we will need to make our fans and our supporters proud,” he said.
Morocco started its campaign strong in this World Cup, earning a 1–1 draw against five-time title holder Brazil, and winning 1–0 against Scotland, although fans and observers feel Morocco missed several chances to score more in their Friday game.
Morocco’s mesmerizing performances and development in football since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as well as their recent AFCON campaigns, have enabled the Atlas Lions to establish themselves as one of the most respected teams on the international stage.
Today, Morocco is a team that every opponent is eager to beat, as victories carry significant weight in improving a team’s status and confidence.
Morocco’s FIFA ranking has also been improving, with the Atlas Lions now positioned sixth in the world, competing directly with the sport’s elite, including Argentina.
With ongoing projections, Morocco now needs a strong victory in their upcoming game against Haiti, and a significant points boost to climb further up the group’s ranking table.
Morocco are expected to face either Japan or the Netherlands in their upcoming knockout stage, depending on Wednesday’s result as well as results from the other competitors.
