Rabat – In just four days, more than 180,000 people have been displaced around Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip due to the ongoing brutal Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) campaign, according to a United Nations report released on Friday.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) disclosed that approximately 182,000 Palestinians have fled the central and eastern areas of Khan Younis since Monday.

The “intensification of hostilities” has triggered “new waves of internal displacement across Gaza,” OCHA stated in a press release, noting that “hundreds more people remain trapped in eastern Khan Younis.”

The IOF claims to have “eliminated about 100 terrorists” in the region since launching the operation four days ago.

On Thursday, the army announced the recovery of the bodies of five Israelis in Khan Younis, including two soldiers and two reservists, who were killed during the Hamas attack on October 7 and subsequently taken to Gaza.

General Herzi Halevi, the IOF chief, said the bodies were retrieved from underground tunnels and walls in “a hidden location.”

“We were close to these bodies previously, but we did not know how to reach them” until this week, he added in a statement released by the army on Friday.

Witnesses and rescuers reported heavy fighting continuing on Friday in eastern Khan Younis. A medical source confirmed that 26 bodies were transported to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on Friday.

Since the onset of its aggression, the IOF have killed at least 39,175 Palestinians, according to data from the Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between civilian and combatant fatalities.
