Rabat – Israeli forces’ largest raid on the West Bank in two decades has entered its fourth day, with ongoing intense attacks concentrated in the city of Jenin and its refugee camps. Since the raid began, hundreds of Israeli soldiers, supported by armored vehicles, have engaged in fierce battles with Palestinian fighters.
The violence has led to significant destruction in Jenin, including damaged infrastructure and disrupted access to essential resources like food and water for residents.
Local reports describe the city of Jenin as being heavily damaged, with homes, businesses, and infrastructure severely affected. The city’s government hospital is struggling to function as it faces severe shortages of water and electricity, relying on generators and water tanks to function.
Israeli violence has also triggered mass displacement, with many families forced to flee their homes in search of safety.
Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh, reporting on the ground, said today that “tensions continue to remain high in Jenin”
“We have seen residents from the refugee camp fleeing their homes. We have been hearing exchanges of gunfire and loud explosions coming closer to the entrance of the camp, where we are located,” she added.
Odeh quoted paramedics who were trying to access an injured boy that had been shot in the head. “There are also reports of at least two men’s bodies lying on the street without moving as the camp remains isolated on the fourth day,” she added.
Since the raid began, at least 20 Palestinians have been reported dead, with most casualties being Palestinian fighters. The violence comes amid the broader war that has intensified since October 7, with Israel having so far killed over 40,400 civilians in Gaza.
The United Nations has reported over 600 Palestinian deaths in the West Bank since the war erupted.
