Rabat – Moroccan athlete Aymen El Haddaoui has secured a spot today in the 100m final (T47 category) at the 17th Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.

El Haddaoui achieved this milestone by finishing first in his heat with a time of 10.69 seconds.

He outpaced Cuba’s Raciel Gonzalez Isidoria, who clocked 10.74 seconds, and Zimbabwe’s Paidamoyo Chigwedere Kudakwashe, who recorded 10.78 seconds.

However, El Haddaoui’s fellow countryman Ayoub Sadni, who competed in the second qualifying heat, was disqualified after two false starts.

The 100m final is scheduled to take place tonight at 6:30 p.m. Moroccan time.

Morocco has won a total of 38 medals since making its debut at the 1988 Seoul Paralympics—16 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze. The majority of these medals, 34 in total, have been earned in para-athletics.

In a recent statement to MAP, Chakib Benmoussa, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, expressed strong optimism and enthusiasm about the Moroccan Paralympic delegation, which includes athletes competing across various sports disciplines.

Benmoussa, who recently visited the Paralympic Village in the Paris region to review the Moroccan team’s accommodations, also reflected on Morocco’s notable performance at the Tokyo Paralympics, where the country won eleven medals.

“The Moroccan Paralympic team is approaching these Games with confidence and positivity, driven by a sense of unity and excitement, with hopes of delivering exceptional results,” Benmoussa said.

He attributed the success of the 38 Moroccan para-athletes—24 men and 14 women—to the diligent work of sports federations, technical teams, and the sports ministry.
