Rabat – After a series of transfer complications, Morocco’s Bilal El Khannouss is on the brink of finalizing his move from KRC Genk to Leicester City, following an agreement between the two clubs.

El Khannouss, who enjoyed a standout season with KRC Genk and earned a bronze medal with Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the recent Paris Olympics 2024 football tournament, is set to join Leicester City.

“Leicester City agrees on a deal to sign El Khannouss from Genk; huge talent to join on €20.5 million package deal,” announced Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on X yesterday evening.

Tensions had escalated in recent days between the player and his current Belgian club.

Following his recent Olympic success, El Khannouss expressed a desire to leave Genk, but the club remained adamant about not negotiating with his representatives.

Despite numerous offers, the most notable being UK’s Leicester City’s bid, Genk had previously rejected the offer, hoping for a higher transfer fee.

As the transfer window nears its close, a breakthrough has finally occurred, and Leicester City and KRC Genk have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player.

The English club, which recently made its comeback to the Premier League after spending the 2023-2024 season in the Championship, will provide El Khannouss with an ideal platform to showcase his talent in one of the most demanding leagues internationally.

Born in Belgium to Moroccan parents, El Khannouss initially represented Belgium at youth levels before switching allegiance to Morocco’s U20 squad.

His talent earned him a spot in Morocco’s 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he made his international debut in the third-place playoff against Croatia on December 17, a match Morocco lost 2–1.
