Rabat – As of the end of August 2024, Morocco welcomed 11.8 million tourists, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This surge represents an additional 1.6 million arrivals.

The hospitality sector also experienced notable growth, with a reported 15.4 million overnight stays in classified accommodation by the end of July 2024, an 8% increase year-on-year.

DEPF noted that the upward trend in the tourism sector is evident across various segments, particularly with non-resident overnight stays, which rose by 13%.

In terms of tourism revenue, a notable increase of 9.5% was recorded in the first month of the third quarter, following a 9.4% rise in the second quarter. However, the first quarter saw a decrease of 4.2%.

Tourism revenues reached approximately MAD 59.4 billion by the end of July this year, reflecting a 3.5% increase compared to July 2023.

Overall, Morocco’s tourism sector is showing resilience and is experiencing remarkable recovery as it continues to  attract international visitors.

Consulting firm Fitch Solutions is predicting 15.4 million arrivals in Morocco by the end of 2024, a 6.2% increase from the previous year.

This  resurgence follows a significant rebound from the pandemic and the September 2023 earthquake, which initially lowered projections.

Key European and Middle Eastern markets are driving growth, particularly in destinations like Marrakech and Agadir. The government is also focusing on enhancing tourism offerings to sustain this upward trajectory.
