Morocco, UAE Expand Security Cooperation with New Agreement

Rabat – Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance in Morocco, completed an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in security.

The visit, which took place from September 23-26, focused on establishing frameworks for security collaboration and exchanging expertise between the two nations.

A key development during the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Morocco’s General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) and the Mohamed bin Zayed Academy for Police and Security Sciences.

This agreement aims to enhance training and professional development in policing, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise in specialized areas.

The collaboration also includes the use of the academy’s resources for training Moroccan security personnel, with a focus on building capacities in various security domains.

In addition, the MoU supports cooperation in higher education, particularly in police and legal sciences, as part of broader efforts to enhance the professionalism and modernization of security forces.

During the visit, Hammouchi held bilateral discussions with Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police.

The talks explored ways to expand security cooperation, reflecting the advanced relationship between Morocco and the UAE.

Both sides focused on identifying areas where their security interests align, with an emphasis on shared challenges and opportunities for collaboration.

Hammouchi also met with Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Head of the UAE National Intelligence Service, where they discussed international security issues and the latest developments in the field.

In addition, Hammouchi toured several advanced security facilities in the UAE, including the “Safe City” project, which utilizes modern technology for traffic management and security operations.

On the sidelines of the visit, Hammouchi met with Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, President of Interpol, to discuss international security cooperation.

The discussions addressed global security challenges, with a focus on enhancing coordination between international security agencies to address transnational threats.

This visit forms part of Morocco’s broader strategy to strengthen its security partnerships internationally. Through agreements like this, Morocco seeks to expand cooperation with key allies and enhance its capacity to address emerging global security challenges.

The focus on police training and human resource development highlights the importance of modernizing security forces to meet evolving security needs.
