Rabat – The National Airports Office (ONDA) announced today the appointment of new directors for three major airports in Morocco; Al Hoceima, Tetouan, and Laayoune.
Adel El Fakir, ONDA’s Director General, led the swearing-in ceremonies for the new directors at Cherif Al Idrissi Airport in Al Hoceima, Saniat R’mel Airport in Tetouan, and Hassan I Airport in Laayoune.
The newly appointed directors will be responsible for overseeing traffic growth, boosting the customer experience, and working closely with authorities to elevate service quality.
ONDA pointed out that these airports are vital to the organization’s operations and the overall transportation infrastructure of Morocco.
The organization noted that this leadership transition is a critical step in managing the major changes at the airports, aligning with the strategic objectives for 2030, and preparing for the upcoming World Cup, which will be hosted by Morocco.
ONDA also stressed that these appointments are crucial for boosting the efficiency of these airports and noted that a major modernization effort is underway to upgrade Morocco’s entire airport infrastructure.
In July 2024, ONDA announced a 19% rise in passenger traffic across the country’s airports during the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2023, reaching a record-breaking 15.1 million passengers.
This growth is widespread, with notable increases at various airports; Rabat-Sale saw a 40% surge, Agadir experienced a 34% rise, and Marrakech had a 29% boost.
Meanwhile, airports in Tetouan, Tangier, and Fesz reported passenger traffic increases between 12% and 23%.
