Rabat – Egyptian authorities at the Cairo International Airport have arrested popular singer and actor Saad El Soghayar in possession of drug substances.
The substances include electronic cigarettes and a vape with marijuana oil. The arrest came upon his return from a trip to the United States, where he performed a concert, reports said today.
El Soghayar admitted to possessing these items for personal use rather than for trafficking, Al Arabia reported today.
He claimed that he was unaware that the substances are illegal in Egypt.
This is not the first time for an Egyptian celebrity to be arrested for drug possession.
Two years ago, the case of Egyptian actress Menna Shalabi made both local and international headlines after her arrest for being in possession of banned narcotics upon her return from the Netherlands.
In May, a court upheld a sentence against the Egyptian actress.
The first ruling sentenced the actress to a one year prison term with the sentence suspended for three years. She was also fined $325.
