Rabat – In an impressive feat, Karim Mosta, a 70-year old Moroccan cyclist and adventurer has completed a remarkable seven-month journey from Casablanca to Beijing, China.
The adventurer traversed 15 countries in his journey, covering over 15,000 kilometers.
The Moroccan embassy in Beijing organized a ceremony in honor of the Moroccan athlete.
In a statement to Morocco’s news agency MAP, Mosta said his journey is in tribute to Morocco’s famous explorer Ibn Battta, who embarked on a similar adventure seven centuries ago under far more arduous conditions due to the absence of modern technology.
Mosta started his Beijing journey on February 7 from Casablanca, traversing many countries, including Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkiye, Georgia as well as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan before reaching China.
The Moroccan cyclist said his goal is to continue promoting Morocco’s values of tolerance, solidarity, and fraternity among people.
Abdelkader El Ansari, Morocco’s ambassador to China applauded Mosta’s achievement to the same source, noting that this journey reflects the deep human connections between Moroccan and Chinese people.
Mosta’s visit also mirrors the strong friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the ambassador added, noting that this exceptional adventure generated significant interest among Chinese citizens.
In addition to his Beijing journey, the Moroccan adventurer also previously completed a similar feat by biking from Casablanca to Mecca, Saudi Arabia in just three months.
