Rabat – In a decisive but high-stakes match today, the Moroccan men’s U18 basketball team clinched their spot in the 2024 Afrobasket semifinals, currently happening in Pretoria, South Africa.
This marks the first time the Moroccan national team has reached this advanced stage of the competition.
The Moroccan team triumphed over Angola with a score of 61-45 in the quarterfinals.
In other quarterfinal matchups, Egypt will face Senegal, Rwanda will play against Cameroon, and Mali will take on Nigeria.
Morocco’s players exhibited outstanding determination and skills, overcoming a well-drilled Angola team, which is considered one of the top teams in Africa.
The national team entered the game with high spirits, buoyed by their earlier victory against the host team, South Africa.
As the games progressed, Morocco leveraged their talent and focus to gain the upper hand, widening the gap thanks to their top-notch organization and performance.
This tournament features 12 teams divided into three different groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.
In their opening match of Group C, Morocco defeated Zambia 84-67. However, they faced a setback in their second game, losing 55-51 to Rwanda last Friday.
