Rabat – A new weather alert forecasts heavy thunderstorms to hit several provinces in Morocco, including the Oriental region.
The weather alert forecasts strong wind and thunderstorms producing between 15 to 30 millimeters of rain in Boulemane, Oujda Angad, Guercif, and Taourirt from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. local time today.
The same weather will affect Ifrane, Sefrou, Taza, and, Fez.
The weather in Morocco has fluctuated between chilly and extremely hot over the past few weeks across several provinces.
The previous two weeks saw significant rainfall, leading to wet conditions and deadly floods in some areas, including Marrakech.
The situation raised concerns particularly after videos and images emerged online showing cars submerged in water due to the heavy rains.
Many took to social media, using hashtags like #InfrastructureMarrakech to express their frustrations, sharing videos of the soaked streets and submerged vehicles.
Many Moroccans argued that the city, despite its importance as a major international tourist destination, lacks adequate infrastructure to handle severe weather events.
