Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed today that multiple people were killed and wounded in an attack targeting the premises of Turkish Aerospace Industries in Ankara.
The Turkish official labeled the attack as a terrorist act but no further details have yet been provided.
“A terrorist attack was carried out against the Turkish Aerospace Industries Ankara Kahramankazan facilities,” he said.
A Reuters report said the cause of the explosion remained unclear but converging reports have indicated that the explosion was due to a suicide attack.
TUSAS is among Turkey’s most significant aviation companies.
No immediate claim for the attack has been confirmed.
Footage from the scene of the attack shows clouds of smoke and fire on the site.
People living in the attacked site’s neighborhood and local media reported a loud explosion, with footage showing an exchange of gunfire, Al Jazeera said.
