Rabat – The death toll in Gaza reached 42,718 as of today, with the number being an underestimate, excluding thousands of victims’ bodies that remain under the rubble.
Gaza’sHealth Ministry said today that the tally includes 100,282 wounded victims that sustained injuries due to Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) genocidal war on Gaza.
In the past 48 hours alone, IOF killed 115 Palestinians and left487 others wounded, the ministry added.
The situation comes amid a total collapse of the health system in the besieged enclave.
Marwan Sultan, director of Beit Lahiya’s Indonesian hospital commented today on the dire situation that patients and staff face as a result of the IOF blockade of essential aid needed to keep it running.
“The Israeli occupation army prevents the entry of fuel and medical supplies to the Indonesian Hospital and cuts off electricity to staff and patients,” he told Al Jazeera, adding that IOF is still besieging the hospital.
“Dozens of patients may die,” he warned, also noting that workers in the health facility are unable to rescue the wounded victims due to the IOF siege on Gaza’s hospitals in the north.
Al Jazeera additionally noted that the IOF has ordered an evacuation of the Beit Lahiya region.
“The situation is atrocious in the north of the Gaza Strip because the Israeli military right now is completely focusing on Beit Lahiya. They have turned the Jabalia refugee camp into a completely shattered landscape,” the news outlet reported.
The situation comes amid regularly-failed attempts on behalf of all parties to reach a ceasefire, especially aggravated by the influx of support that the US has provided for Israel to continue its genocidal campaign untethered and without consequences.
US Secretary General Antony Blinken is currently on a visit to Israel to hold talks with officials to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Lebanon as a result of the IOF’s escalation of violence in the region.
“Blinken, launching his regional tour exactly two weeks before the US elections, will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with US officials hopeful of progress but downplaying chances of an immediate breakthrough during his trip,” Al Jazeeraadded.
