Rabat– A disturbing incident has prompted widespread outrage and sympathy on social media in Morocco after a video surfaced showing foreign tourists and their Moroccan guide rescuing a girl from an abandoned well.

The footage, which emerged online Thursday morning, documents the moment when tourists in the M’Hamid El Ghizlane region of Zagora discovered the girl trapped in the well, pleading for assistance.

Civil protection teams quickly responded, successfully rescuing her and transporting her to the regional hospital in Zagora. She was subsequently transferred to the regional hospital in Sidi Hsain, Ouarzazate, for further medical evaluation.

The young woman was found with multiple injuries, including bruises and cuts. During her interaction with the tour guide, she claimed to have no knowledge of how she ended up in the well and expressed that she was suffering from the cold and pain. She reported being unable to stand and denied knowing the identity of her assailant.

Local sources indicate that the girl’s family is accusing her sister’s husband of the assault. Allegedly, he lured her to a remote area in his vehicle before attempting to dispose of her in the well. A concerning aspect of the case is the revelation that the victim is pregnant with his child. Sources suggest that the accused sought to hide the scandal by discarding his sister-in-law in the well.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday evening, leading the victim’s family to suspect that an illicit relationship between the two led to her pregnancy. In light of the allegations, the public prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation into the matter.

As the investigation proceeds, the gendarmerie says they are providing protection to the girl at Sidi Hsain Hospital, following directives from the public prosecutor. The community, along with social media activists, continues to express their shock and demand accountability and justice regarding this troubling incident.
