Rabat – Morocco is cementing its position as a key player in global value chains, particularly in electric mobility and green energy, according to officials at a recent high-level meeting organized by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).
The event, attended by business council leaders and government officials, reflected the country’s growing appeal to international investors, especially in the electric battery sector.
Minister Delegate for Investment Mohcine Jazouli stated that Morocco is establishing a complete electric battery value chain with significant investments from Chinese companies, including CNGR, BTR, and Gotion.
These companies are building gigafactories in Morocco to produce batteries for electric vehicles, boosting the country’s strategic importance.
“Chinese operators see us as a long-term partner,” Jazouli said. “Morocco is considered a ‘safe space’ for battery production, independent of any international political crisis.”
The CGEM meeting, spearheaded by key figures like CGEM President Chakib Alj, focused on how Morocco can further integrate into global markets while enhancing its competitiveness.
Alj emphasized the need for Moroccan companies to adapt to global trends such as digital transformation, climate change, and supply chain resilience.
“Aligning with global challenges in areas like energy, digital transition, and cybersecurity is crucial for our companies’ competitiveness both at home and abroad,” Alj said.
The event featured a panel discussion where business council leaders shared insights on navigating global shifts and maximizing Morocco’s economic potential.
Tawfik Hammoud, Chairman of Boston Consulting Group (BCG), commented on the unique opportunity emerging markets like Morocco have in the post-pandemic world.
“The current global landscape presents challenges, but Morocco is exceptionally well-positioned to accelerate its growth,” Hammoud remarked.
CGEM’s 66 business councils, established in partnership with foreign associations, play a pivotal role in driving investment and strengthening Morocco’s international presence.
