Casablanca – Morocco’s Youssef Assouik made his ONE Championship debut this past Friday, showcasing his skills at the martial art organization’s ONE Fight Night 25.

Assouik faced a difficult challenge against former world title challenger Thailand’s Sinsamut Klinmee in the much-anticipated lightweight Muay Thai contest in the showdown that kicked off at 1:00 am (WET) in Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.

His efforts paid off, with Assouik scoring a massive victory against Klinmee, making a strong debut entry into the ONE Championship world.

With this win, martial arts enthusiasts who are not priorly familiar with the Moroccan fighter now have him on their ONE Championship radar. So who is Youssef Assouik? Here are top facts to know.

1. He is a regional and world champion

The Moroccan-Danish athlete has an impressive resume which is filled with major achievements in the world of Muay Thai.

A former International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) champion and Arab Muay Thai champion, Assouik is also the current World Muay Thai Council (WMC) Middleweight Muay Thai champion.

In 2012, he became the first Danish junior champion in the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA). Ten years later, he became the first Moroccan to win the senior championship.

2. He owns an impressive professional record

Assouik has fought in many countries around the world, including Denmark, Sweden, France, Thailand, Russia, and China.

Assouik has amassed a 27-3 record with nine of his wins coming via finishes since the start of his professional career. Most importantly, he entered his first test in the ONE Championship competition riding a nine-win-streak.

3. He has a diverse skill set

The fighter, who first found Muay Thai at the age of 15, is a technically gifted martial artist with a wide range of attacking weapons and a red belt with two black stripes in Taekwondo.

He fights using both his right and left hands and feet, and with his sheer strength he can overpower opponents with his elbows, punches, and kicks from inside the clinch.

4. He has defeated ONE fighters outside the organization

Even before stepping into Lumpinee Stadium last week for his ONE Championship debut, Assouik already had experience facing some of the best Muay Thai talents around the world. His impressive wins include two against ONE fighters Liam Nolan in the IFMA world championship and Jimmy Vienot in WMC.

5. He is inspiring the young generation

Aside from his in-ring performances, Assouik dedicates his time to social work. Through his Copenhagen-based company, Komeback, he has publicly said he aims to inspire young people and keep them away from a life of crime.
