Naima Ben Yahia has replaced Aawatif Hayar as the new Minister of Solidarity and Family as part of a government reshuffle confirmed on Wednesday.
King Mohammed VI received today in Rabat some of the ministers, including those taking on different departments for the first time.
The list includes Benyahia, who was appointed as Minister of Women, Family, and Children’s Affairs at the Ministry of Family in 2006.
She also served in several other administrative offices including the Mutual Aid Foundation.
In 2011, Benyahia was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for the Istiqlal Party.
She also served as the first chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee in Parliament.
In 2018, Benyahia was appointed by former minister of Sports Rachid Talbi Alami as Director of the Foundation for the Promotion of Social Works for Employees and Assistants at the ministry.
Other new entrants to the Akhannouch government include Saad Berrada, who will replace Chakib Benmoussa as the new Minister of Education; Amine Tahraoui, who will replace Khalid Ait Taleb as Minister of Health; Ahmed Bouari, who will replace Mohamed Sadiki as Minister of Agriculture; Azzedine El Midaoui as Minister of Higher Education; Abdessamad Kayouh will take on the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, while Naima Ben Yahia will replace Aawatif Hayar as Minister of Solidarity and Family.
Many ministers have maintained their positions, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, and others.
