Rabat – Morocco and the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer signed a memorandum of understanding to launch joint projects in the Moroccan aerospace industry.

The signing agreement took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Marrakech Air Show (MAS), which kicked off on Wednesday and will run until November 2.

Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour signed the agreement with Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO Arjan Meijer, alongside Karime Zidane, the director general of the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development.

The agreement aims to open venues for cooperation in commercial aviation, defense, and urban air mobility, providing a framework for building an integrated sourcing ecosystem in Morocco.

It also aims to foster innovation and economic growth to contribute to job creation and the development of local skills.

The pact also covers possible collaboration in research and technology, especially related to carbonization, clean mobility, and sustainable aviation.

Once completed, the projects’ potential economic impact in the realms of training, ecosystem development and other areas is expected to reach $300 million. The initiative is designed to  create 300 jobs by 2030 and up to $1 billion and the creation of 1,000 jobs by 2035.

Morocco’s vision is to double employment in its aerospace sector by 2030.  Around 20,000 jobs have been created in the sector overall, reaching an integration rate exceeding 40%.

During the MAS event, Mezzour emphasized that Morocco’s political stability and strong infrastructure makes the country a “reliable” aerospace partner and regional hub.
