Rabat – OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of Morocco’s OCP Group, has secured a significant partnership with QatarEnergy to supply sulfur for the next decade.
The agreement, announced today, will see QatarEnergy deliver up to 7.5 million tons of sulfur, beginning in the third quarter of 2024.
The deal is poised to play a crucial role in supporting OCP Nutricrops’ mission to provide sustainable and tailored plant nutrition solutions to farmers worldwide.
As part of its broader strategy to address global challenges related to food security and sustainability, OCP Nutricrops focuses on developing soil health and plant nutrition solutions.
The company produces a range of phosphate-based products, each specifically designed to improve soil quality and optimize agricultural output.

In the short term, OCP Nutricrops will continue sourcing sulfur from ADNOC – the national oil company of Abu Dhabi – under a previous agreement that will remain in effect until early 2025.
This transitional period will ensure a seamless shift to QatarEnergy’s supply, which will begin in the second half of 2024.

Commenting on the news, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, expressed confidence that the collaboration will lead to mutual growth, highlighting the strategic value of forming long-term relationships with key players in the fertilizer industry.
OCP Nutricrops, launched in April 2024, is quickly gaining recognition for its innovative approach to plant nutrition. The company’s emphasis on precision farming, soil fertility, and sustainable agricultural practices has already led to notable partnerships.
Notably, during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Morocco in October 2024, OCP Nutricrops signed a memorandum of understanding with multiple French organizations, including Intercéréales and Arvalis.
The partnership with QatarEnergy will ensure that the company has access to a vital resource needed to drive its mission forward, enhancing its capacity to address the growing demands of modern agriculture.
