Fez – The second version of the Fez Fashion Show, which transformed the city’s Crystal Hall into a catwalk of culture on November 2, showed how traditional craftsmanship has merged into today’s fashion.
One of the night’s highlights was an innovative collection that married Moroccan and Palestinian heritage.
Moroccan designer Badr Barada, Manager of Atelier Al-Mrama, enthralled the audience with his “Collection Palestroc” – a well-thought-out fusion of Moroccan-Palestinian cultural elements.
Fez Fashion ShowThe collection was an end product of Barada’s creative workshop where each traditional clothing was crafted from cutting and embroidery to beaded works, and both hand and machine sewing are confined under one roof.
Barada’s work with a Palestinian client inspired this cross-cultural collection, which opened his eyes to the detail and richness of Palestinian fashion. The result was a dynamic combination of Palestinian silhouettes and traditional Moroccan embroidery techniques, showcasing a perfect dialogue between the two different cultural aesthetics.
Barada blended typical Palestinian closed-cut garments with purely Moroccan embroidery patterns while noticeably avoiding the cross-stitch technique of Palestine. Such is the blending of “sfifa,” a Moroccan technique, with Palestinian-inspired designs. It was an illustration of how cultural differences create unexpected beauty when thoughtfully combined.
During the event, Atelier Al-Mrama presented a workshop which promoted the conservation of traditional Moroccan fashion.
In the workshop, Barada underlined the collective character of fashion creation and the necessity of preserving traditional craftsmanship within contemporary design by bringing his entire Atelier team to the show.
The appearance of this collection at the Fez Fashion Show was the epitome of the event’s bigger mission-to show off Morocco’s rich cultural heritage while embracing creative innovation.
As models walked down the catwalk in these hybrid creations, they carried with them a strong message on the beauty of cultural exchange and relevance of traditional craftsmanship in today’s fashion.
The event not only celebrated Morocco’s fashion heritage but also how traditional techniques could evolve through cross-cultural inspiration, creating new possibilities for evening wear that would honor multiple cultural traditions at once.
