Rabat – Moroccan inventor Fouad Faqiri won the gold medal at the Seoul International Inventions Fair (SIIF), taking place from November 27 to 30 in the Korean capital. His project, the only African entry at the event, focuses on generating clean and efficient electricity.
Faqiri invented a device that transforms gravitational and magnetic energy into mechanical energy and then into electricity. It aims to offer a sustainable alternative to solar and wind technologies, MAP news agency reported.
The device is adaptable to various sizes and promises higher efficiency compared to conventional renewable energy systems. Prototypes of this invention are expected to be developed soon, the report added.
In addition to the gold medal, Faqiri received the “Citizen Innovation” honorary award from a Singapore-based innovation alliance and the title of “Innovation Icon” from Malaysia’s Ministry of Defense.
This recognition marks Faqiri’s fifth international award in 2024. Earlier this year, he won gold medals at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, the Tokyo International Invention Fair, and the International Invention Fair in Kuwait. He also earned top honors at the Adana International Invention Fair in Turkiye in October.
Speaking to MAP, the Moroccan news agency, Faqiri expressed pride in representing Morocco on the global stage and hopes his invention will contribute to Morocco’s efforts in renewable energy. He added that this project can change the way energy is produced while protecting the environment. It could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% to 70% over the next 20 years.
Faqiri believes his innovation aligns with Morocco’s push for renewable energy solutions and is open to collaborations to harness the device’s potential. He also underlined the global recognition the project has already received.
The Seoul International Inventions Fair attracted over 400 inventors and researchers from all over the world to showcase new ideas and products.
