Rabat – Senegal’s Oumar Kane has become the first African fighter to be crowned ONE Heavyweight MMA world champion in martial arts organization ONE Championship.
In a record-breaking night inside Bangkok’s iconic Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, Kane showed courage, determination, and his world-class wrestling skills as he dethroned the previously undefeated ONE Heavyweight MMA world champion Anatoly Malykhin.
Despite having picked up a deserved unanimous decision victory against BJJ legend Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida, Kane entered the bout as the underdog against the three-division MMA world champion.
However, a quick takedown in the first round, a knockdown in the fifth round, and a well-rounded performance helped him squeeze through a split decision win.
With this massive win, the 32-year-old Senalagese former wrestling champion, who switched to MMA in 2019, raises his MMA record to 7-1.
Founded in 2011, ONE Championship broadcasts tournament shows across multiple martial arts disciplines including MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Submission Grappling.
