Rabat – Moroccan authorities intercepted today a major attempt to smuggle psychotropic drugs through the Tanger Med Port, dealing a blow to international trafficking networks.

Customs and security officers seized 19,050 psychotropic pills hidden in custom-built compartments inside the cabin of a truck arriving from Europe.

The vehicle’s driver, a 36-year-old Moroccan national, was immediately taken into custody, according to a security source.

An investigation, led under judicial supervision, is underway to identify those involved and trace any national or international links to the smuggling operation. Officials are working to uncover the full extent of the network behind this attempt.

Earlier this month, security officers at Tanger Med Port intercepted a significant international drug smuggling operation, confiscating 155,703 ecstasy pills hidden in a truck arriving from Europe.

The narcotics were found during routine border inspections, aided by police canine units. The pills were carefully concealed in specially crafted compartments within the truck’s cabin.

Two Moroccan nationals, aged 41 and 44, were arrested at the scene. These suspects, identified as the truck’s driver and his companion, are now under investigation.

These successful operations by The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) are integral to Morocco’s ongoing efforts to boost border security and dismantle drug trafficking networks.
