Rabat – Morocco has dropped one position in the latest FIFA rankings, now ranked 14th compared to 13th in October, despite a positive performance in the AFCON qualifiers.

However, the team has maintained its position as the top football nation in Africa.

Morocco’s total points in the FIFA ranking  are now at 1688.18 compared to 1681.57 in October.

In Africa, Senegal is second, followed by Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, and Cameroon.

Morocco wrapped up their qualifying campaign in style with a 7-0 victory over Lesotho.

Observers view the win as important to solidify the Atlas Lions’ position as one of the tournament favorites.

The Atlas Lions were successful to win all six games of their Group B matches, finishing the campaign with more than a 24 goal difference, and only concededing two goals throughout the qualifiers.

The squad triumphed against the Central African Republic with 4-0 and 5-0 scorelines in the two games. They also won a game against Gabon 4-1 in September.

Both fans and sports analysts alike have expressed satisfaction with the wins but have stressed that the Atlas Lions will need to maintain this level of intensity and consistency as they prepare for the AFCON 2025 tournament.

Fans are eagerly anticipating Morocco’s AFCON performances, especially being that the continental tournament will be taking place at home.

Moroccans are also hoping to see the Atlas Lions replicate or even surpass the remarkable achievements of their historic 2022 World Cup campaign, where they became the first Arab and African country to reach the semifinals.

The global FIFA ranking is topped by Argentina, which is followed by France, Spain, England, Brazil, Portugal,  Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and Germany.
