Rabat — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is recovering in an underground fortified room designed to protect against missile strikes after undergoing prostate surgery on Sunday, hospital officials confirmed.
Doctors at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical center reported that the procedure went smoothly, with no sign of cancer. “We only hope for the best,” said Dr. Ofer Gofrid, head of the urology department, to the press. However, his hospitalization leaves him absent during a tense period.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin served as acting prime minister while Netanyahu was sedated.
In a statement, Netanyahu expressed gratitude to his doctors and assured the public he is “fully alert.”
The 75-year-old is accused of war crimes and faces a corruption trial which has been delayed for several days, as his lawyers argue he needed time to recuperate. If found guilty, Netanyahu could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

Netanyahu’s health has recently raised alarms.
Last year, a fainting episode revealed a chronic heart condition and saw him fitted with a pacemaker. Earlier this year, he underwent a hernia surgery.
These incidents have sparked concerns about his ability to run the genocidal government committing atrocities with their campaign in Gaza, amid clashes with Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
Critics accuse Israel’s longest-serving leader of concealing health problems to maintain his grip on power, fueling distrust in an already polarized nation.
With Gaza in flames and in famine, political battles in Israel rage on. Netanyahu’s health only adds another layer of uncertainty to Israel’s already precarious situation.
