Rabat – Casablanca witnessed a tragic traffic accident early this morning when a large truck collided with a tramway station, claiming the lives of three people and injuring others.
The accident occurred at the Ibn Tachfine tram station around 6:30 a.m., according to Monia Daif, a sales manager at Casa Transport, the company operating Casablanca’s tramway network. She told SNRT News that tram services resumed shortly after the accident.
Abdelwahad Zamzami, the regional health and social protection delegate for Ain Sebaa-Hay Mohammadi, confirmed that a young woman lost her life at the scene.
He added to SNRT News that three injured individuals were rushed to the regional hospital. Tragically, one of them, a security guard who was at the station during the incident, passed away later in the emergency room.
The third injured person was transferred to Ibn Rochd University Hospital for specialized care. Meanwhile, the family of the fourth injured individual decided to transfer them to a private clinic for treatment.
Monia Daif later confirmed that the third victim, who had been hospitalized at Ibn Rochd, also succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total number of fatalities to three.
Casablanca has witnessed numerous accidents involving tramway systems in recent years.
