Rabat – Morocco has officially been selected to host the FIFA Africa Bureau headquarters, signaling the birth of a new era for African football development.

Signed in Marrakech following the conclusion of the 2024 CAF Awards—a fitting backdrop to celebrate this significant leap forward for football governance in Africa, the agreement reflects Morocco’s growing prominence as a center for sports governance and infrastructure in Africa.

The signing ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

This partnership aligns with FIFA’s strategic vision to expand its presence across Africa, leveraging Morocco’s strong commitment to advancing football both regionally and globally.

The establishment of the Africa Bureau strives to streamline FIFA’s projects and boost support for football initiatives across the continent, with Morocco’s government and the FRMF pledging full administrative and logistical support to ensure its smooth operation.

Akhannouch described the agreements as a milestone that reaffirms Morocco’s credibility among global sports institutions. “This step comes on the heels of Morocco’s historic joint hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup, alongside Spain and Portugal. It is a clear recognition of our readiness and ability to support international football initiatives,” he said.

Meanwhile, Infantino also hailed the agreement as a transformative move for African football. “This bureau represents more than an administrative hub; it is a commitment to advancing football across the continent. Morocco’s dedication to the sport has set a benchmark for others,” the FIFA chief argued.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe also commended Morocco’s contributions to African football, both on and off the field. “Morocco’s investments and leadership continue to inspire progress throughout the continent. The FIFA Africa Bureau will undoubtedly strengthen Africa’s football ecosystem,” he stated.

Motsepe also echoed these sentiments during his speech at the CAF Awards. “Today, we celebrate the best of Africa—its players, its achievements, and its immense progress in football,” he said. “The presence of everyone here is proof that African football is now more recognized and respected on the global stage.”

At the awards, Moroccans played a key role in their country’s success, with Bouchra Karboubi named best female referee of the year, Doha El Madani honored as the best young female player, Lamia Boumehdi recognized as the best female coach, among others.

The creation of the FIFA Africa Bureau places Morocco at the forefront of shaping the future of football on the continent. Equipped with specialized infrastructure and expertise, the bureau will drive sustainable development, assisting federations, projects, and rising talent throughout Africa.
