Morocco and Palestine Strengthen Cultural Ties with Library Cooperation Agreement

Fez – In the North African country’s latest show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, Morocco and Palestine have joined forces through a library cooperation agreement. The partnership is aimed to protect Palestinian documentary heritage, exchange cultural knowledge, and empower preservation efforts with Moroccan expertise in digitization and restoration.

Formalized on December 12, the partnership includes a cultural exchange program and a commitment by the BNRM to provide Palestinian institutions with Moroccan publications on the historical and cultural ties between the two nations. “This initiative reflects Morocco’s dedication to fostering cultural connections and supporting the preservation of Palestinian heritage,” said Samira El Malizi, interim director of the BNRM in a press release.

The agreement also includes training Palestinian professionals in the digitization and restoration of historical documents, a move aimed at bolstering Palestine’s capacity to protect its cultural archives. Morocco will share its expertise in digital archiving, ensuring that these valuable resources are accessible for generations to come.

The signing ceremony took place in Rabat, attended by Palestinian Ambassador Jamal Choubki and Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, head of the Bayt Mal Al Quds.

El Malizi said that the agreement aligns with Morocco’s broader efforts to safeguard cultural heritage. “By training specialists and sharing expertise, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the preservation of Palestine’s documentary legacy,” she noted.

Aïssa Krakaa, director of the Palestinian National Library, commended Morocco’s role in protecting Palestinian cultural memory and identity. He talked about the importance of libraries as repositories of national history and vital resources for researchers and those invested in cultural and historical knowledge.

This collaboration strengthens the cultural partnership between Morocco and Palestine. At a time when Gaza is facing a genocide and the West Bank is being succumbed to constant bombardment, all at the hands of Israel, efforts to protect Palestine’s cultural heritage is more important than ever.
