Rabat – Moroccan-Dutch sisters Asmae and Kenza Ploeger, aged 17 and 18 respectively, have embarked on an entrepreneurial journey as the youngest franchisees of Anytime Fitness Morocco.
Morocco World News (MWN) spoke with these two young women, who are opening a new gym in Green Town, Bouskoura, with a strong focus on promoting health and communal well-being.
The sisters, who spent most of their early years in the Netherlands, moved to Morocco in 2018. Despite their relatively recent relocation, they have always had a deep connection to their heritage.
“Our commitment to Morocco has always been significant,” they explained, noting that the country’s flourishing economy and opportunities make it the ideal place for entrepreneurial ventures like theirs.
This passion for their homeland is what motivated them to dive into Morocco’s fitness and wellness sector and bring a global standard of health and wellness to their new home.
“We are immensely proud to enhance the health and wellness sector in Morocco, thanks to the opportunity provided by our father and the support of Anytime Fitness,” they told MWN.
Starting young in business
Opening and managing a gym at a young age has come with challenges for the Ploeger sisters, but they have approached the learning process with dedication. “When starting this venture, we had to learn and assimilate extensive information regarding business, health, clientele, and management,” they said.
They added, however, that it has also been a rich learning experience as it helped them develop essential entrepreneurial skills along the way.
Asmae and Kenza come from an entrepreneurial family, and they credit their parents for instilling in them the resilience and problem-solving skills that have been crucial in their journey.
“Our parents, both entrepreneurs, taught us invaluable lessons regarding resilience, problem-solving, and maintaining tunnel vision on our goals,” they said. In particular, they highlighted their mother’s encouragement to stay curious and always ask questions, which they said played a key role in boosting their confidence and decision-making abilities. This advice has guided them through the process of becoming successful franchisees, a role that offers both “security and success.”
The Ploeger sisters’ entry into the Anytime Fitness franchise comes at a time when Morocco’s fitness sector is ripe for innovation.
A commitment to health and community
They stressed that Anytime Fitness offers “something unique” in the fitness market “due to its practical features such as fostering a sense of community, encouraging people to take charge of their health, and balancing quality with affordability.” The gym’s location in Green Town, Bouskoura, offers 24/7 accessibility, making it an ideal fit for the local community, they highlighted.
Anytime Fitness is a global fitness franchise with over 5,000 gyms in more than 50 countries.
For Asmae and Kenza, the opportunity to be part of this global franchise is not just about business; it’s also about contributing to the well-being of their community. “We aim to nurture both communal and personal growth, believing that investing in health is one of the greatest decisions anyone can make for themselves,” they say.
They are proud to be part of a movement that promotes a healthier lifestyle and provides accessible fitness options to people in their area.
The Ploeger sisters also expressed their excitement about the growth of Anytime Fitness and the impact their gym will have on the health and wellness of those around them. “We are immensely proud to enhance the health and wellness sector in Morocco, thanks to the opportunity provided by our father and the support of Anytime Fitness,” they said.
Their entrepreneurial journey, though still in its early stages, has already taught them valuable lessons that they are eager to share with other young aspiring entrepreneurs. “For other young entrepreneurs or aspiring ones, our advice is to seek out opportunities, develop both soft and hard skills, and maintain good organization and time management,” they concluded.
