A joint operation by Morocco’s National Security Services and Customs at the Port of Casablanca successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle 3.61 tonnes of cannabis resin hidden inside an international shipping container on Wednesday.
The shipment, destined for a European port, was cleverly concealed in a cargo of fish meal.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the origin and destination of the seized drugs The investigation also aims to identify the exporters of the seized container and uncover all individuals involved in the criminal network and its local and international connections.
In 2023, police recorded and processed 99,513 drug trafficking cases as well as arrested 130,212 individuals for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
At that time, police seized 81 tons and 175 kilograms of cannabis, representing a 17% decrease compared to a year earlier.
