Rabat – Recent reports revealed that Gal Gadot’s highly anticipated film Cleopatra will be filmed in Morocco, a favorite destination for major Hollywood productions.

“The production team has narrowed down an exciting new location for the film, with Morocco listed as the filming destination,” CBR reported, quoting a report by Production Bulletin.

It added that the film is currently in active development by Universal Pictures and Atlas Entertainment. Gadot will star in the title role, depicting Cleopatra, the powerful queen of Egypt.

The movie will tell the story of Cleopatra’s dramatic rise to power, her alliances with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, and her ultimate downfall.

This movie has faced several delays since its announcement in 2020. Patty Jenkins originally directed the film but Kari Skogland has since taken over. The production also switched studios from Paramount Pictures to Universal Pictures.

The choice of Morocco as the filming destination continues its legacy as a prime location for Hollywood movies and international productions. The country has hosted scenes from iconic movies like Gladiator II, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Mummy.

A 2022 study by travel company Kuoni featured Morocco among the world’s 10 most popular filming destinations.

Morocco’s Atlas Studios was the backdrop of many blockbusters, including he award-winning series Game of Thrones, Vikings, Sherlock, and Prison Break.

Ouarzazate, also known as the Hollywood of Africa, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Its historical landmarks and iconic film studios continue to attract visitors from around the world.

Essaouira is another Moroccan city that has become a famous destination for cinema productions, especially fantasy series. Scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed in the coastal city.

Most recently, American mystery-thriller series “Outer Banks” has chosen Essaouira to film some of the scenes from its fourth season.
