Rabat – Casablanca police have arrested a 30-year-old man wanted for several crimes, including murder and illegal drug trafficking.
The suspect was apprehended during a special security operation in the city of El Jadida on Monday.
The arrest was made after police received detailed information from Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). According to police sources, the man was the subject of 49 national arrest warrants, including 46 issued by the Royal Gendarmerie and three by judicial police in Casablanca and Settat.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in distributing cocaine, “poufa,” and prescription pills in Douar Khalif, a rural area near Berrechid.
He is also wanted in connection with a murder that took place on the night of January 11, which authorities believe was related to disputes over drug trafficking.
During the operation, police seized a large amount of cash believed to be profits from the suspect’s illegal activities.
The suspect is currently in custody under judicial supervision to investigate further crimes, locate accomplices, and trace all criminal proceeds.
“Poufa” is a type of synthetic drug that has gained popularity in Morocco in recent years due to its affordability. It is a homemade, highly addictive drug prepared from the remains of cocaine and ammonia.
Many describe it as the “drug of the poor” due to its low cost, with one gram priced at just MAD 50 ($5). Health experts have warned about the dangers of the addictive drugs and call for urgent action to protect Moroccan youth.
