Rabat — The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced they are postponing the African Nations Championship (CHAN) until August of this year.

The continental tournament was initially scheduled for February 1-28.

In the statement announcing the change, CAF indicated that the three co-organizing countries — Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda — need more time to ready the required infrastructure to host the games and the participating national teams.

CAF’s technical team advised the confederation that “more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities are at the levels necessary for hosting a successful Total Energies African Nations Championship (CHAN), Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024,” the statement said.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe extended his gratitude to the presidents of the host countries, commending the progress that has been made in  Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in preparation of the continental tournament.

“I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda,” he said, extending his confidence that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, and hospitals will be at the requisite CAF standards for hosting.

CHAN notably added that the draw for CHAN will still take place at the same scheduled time on Wednesday, January 15 in Nairobi.

“The exact date in August 2025 2025 of the commencement of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 will be announced by CAF in due course,” the press release concluded.
