Rabat – Police in Casablanca have launched a judicial investigation into a 32-year-old woman suspected of deliberately harming her 5-year-old son.
Police immediately responded after a local school principal reported she discovered recent and older injuries on the child’s body, including in sensitive areas.
The child protection police unit promptly intervened, ensuring the child received the necessary medical care and psychological support.
Preliminary findings led to the arrest of the mother on allegations that she used a heated object to inflict the injuries.
The mother is under judiciary custody for a judicial investigation led by the public prosecution to determine all the circumstances of this case, as well as identify all the criminal acts attributed to her.
The incident reflects the critical role of educational institutions in identifying and reporting cases related to child abuse.

A similar case took place in 2022 when a video went viral depicting a 6-year-old girl covered in bruises and burn injuries from head to toe, prompting police to swiftly react to the incident.
Morocco registered that year a total of 3,295 cases of sexual assault against children, accounting for over 40% of all crimes of violence against children.
The swift reporting by the school’s administration and the prompt intervention of law enforcement and child protection services underlines the importance of vigilance and collaboration in protecting children’s well-being.
In May 2024, high-level Moroccan government officials signed an agreement on the implementation of the “territorial mechanism for the care of children in precarious situations.”
The agreement was commended by UNICEF representatives, who attended the signatory ceremony, as a major move to enhance Morocco’s national child protection system.
