Rabat – Morocco’s GDP is expected to grow by 3.2% in 2025 and 3.4% in 2026, according to a newly released United Nations report.

The report, published Thursday by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York,  projects global economic growth at 2.8% in 2025, driven by lower inflation and ongoing monetary easing.

“While the global economy has shown resilience against a series of reinforcing shocks, growth remains below the pre-pandemic average of 3.2%,” the report highlights.

It showcases that persistent challenges, including weak investment, slow productivity growth, and high debt levels, continue to hinder global recovery.

For Africa, the UN predicts economic growth will rise modestly from 3.4% in 2024 to 3.7% in 2025, spurred by the recovery of major economies. However, rising debt service costs, limited job opportunities, and the growing effects of climate change are expected to dampen the continent’s outlook.

Global inflation is forecast to decrease from 4% in 2024 to 3.4% in 2025, offering relief to households and businesses.

Major central banks are anticipated to continue cutting interest rates as inflationary pressures ease. However, in many developing countries, inflation is likely to remain above historical averages, with one in five projected to face double-digit inflation rates in 2025.

The report calls for bold multilateral action to address interconnected crises such as debt, inequality, and climate change. It urges governments to prioritize investments in clean energy, infrastructure, and critical social sectors like health and education, while avoiding overly restrictive fiscal policies.

“Governments must adopt forward-looking policies and comprehensive regulatory frameworks to drive sustainable extraction, equitable benefit-sharing, and investments in building productive capacities to maximize development gains,” the report states.

In his foreword, UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the importance of 2025 as a pivotal year, saying: “We must set the world on a path toward a prosperous and sustainable future for all.”
