Morocco is about to change its road laws. The use of Electric scooters is on the rise and the country wants to update its traffic regulations to cut down on road accidents and improve safety.
The Ministry of Transport is preparing to amend Law No. 52.05, which hasn’t kept up with the explosion of this technological means of transport.
In recent years, electric scooters have taken over streets across Morocco. But with little regulation, they pose a risk to riders and pedestrians alike.
Under the new law, people with a standard driving license (Class B) will soon be able to ride electric scooters – but only after taking an extra training course at the driving school. This might not please thousands of riders already whizzing through the blocks.

The new rules will see that riders who don’t stop at the red light or without a helmet on will be fined. Their electric scooters might even be seized in extreme cases.
Electric scooters aren’t the only target of these changes. The law will also clamp down on other violations, like illegal parking and driving without a valid license.
Plus, the government plans to use state-of-the-art traffic technology to catch offenders, with new devices to track speeding drivers and monitor behaviour.
