Rabat – King Mohammed VI has extended his congratulations to Ahmad Al-Sharaa following his official presentation as Syria’s transitional president.
“It is my pleasure to express my congratulations and appreciation to Your Excellency on assuming the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic during this transitional phase,” the King wrote.
He also wished the new Syrian President success, reaffirming Morocco’s steadfast commitment to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
Morocco’s position “has always been and remains one of support for the Syrian people in achieving their aspirations for freedom, peace, and stability,” the monarch noted.
As Syria enters a new political phase that has many Syrians hoping about the future of their country, Morocco’s role is to stand by the Syrian people while they “navigate this critical and decisive phase in their history in complete harmony with our principled stance supporting Syria’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty,” the royal message stressed.
The Moroccan King concluded his message by extending his heartfelt congratulations to the new Syrian president, wishing him and the Syrian people the best in their coming efforts to consolidate peace and stability in the country.
Syria grappled with years of political crisis and security during the reign of the collapsed Al Assad regime.

The country’s newly announced transitional period has received widespread support from the international community.
Many countries in the Arab world have extended their congratulations to Syria’s new president, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, and Yemen.
They have especially expressed support for the country’s transition and efforts to implement the most needed reforms and revive dialogue among Syrians.
Al-Sharaa acknowledged that given the challenges it faces, a full transition will take some time.
“My estimate is that the period of time [to organize elections’ will be approximately between four and five years until the elections,” converging reports recently quoted Sharaa as saying in his latest pre-recorded interview.
He made a similar statement in December last year, when told Al Arabiya TV that the electoral process could take up to four years.
He recalled on Monday that the voting infrastructure needs to be re-established, vowing the creation of a law regulating political parties.
