Rabat – Moroccan police have foiled a drug trafficking attempt on Friday morning after receiving precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

Officers in Tetouan arrested two suspects, aged 21 and 32, for their suspected involvement in a criminal network that traffics drugs and illegal substances. The two suspects were attempting to smuggle 12,000 pills.

According to a security source, the operation took place in Tetouan, where police caught the two suspects in a small car while they were in possession of the illegal pills.

After a search of the vehicle, police discovered 12,000 Rivotril pills, a type of controlled medication, along with a sum of money believed to be proceeds from their illegal activities.

The suspects are now in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the case and identify other possible connections to this criminal network.

The operation is part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and maintain public safety, as well as its international collaboration against regional threats like terrorism and organized crime.

Earlier this week, the country assisted Spain with a major drug bust by contributing intelligence that led to the seizure of over two tons of cannabis.

The operation was carried out by Spain’s Civil Guard in Tenerife Island, where authorities arrested six suspects. The drugs were intercepted following precise intelligence provided by Morocco’s General Directorate of Surveillance.
