Fez – As Morocco gears up for the highly anticipated 2030 FIFA World Cup, the country is doubling down on its commitment to developing young football talent.
In line with this vision, the first edition of “FIFA For Schools in Morocco” concluded with great success on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmoura.
Organized by FIFA in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), the event marked a major step in integrating football into the national education system.
The three-day program February 17-19 blended practical training sessions with theoretical courses, designed to instill both technical skills and the core philosophy of the initiative.
Children from regional academies across the country participated, engaging in matches and interactive workshops under the guidance of experienced coaches and instructors.
Morocco’s Minister of Education, Preschool, and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, delivered a message on the significance of the program in shaping the next generation of footballers at the closing ceremony.
“FIFA For Schools provides thousands of children, in Morocco and globally, with an opportunity to grow through football. Beyond technical abilities, they acquire discipline, teamwork, solidarity, and perseverance: values crucial for their future,” Berrada said in a speech delivered on his behalf by ministry secretary-general Younes Shimi.
For his part, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa reinforced Morocco’s dedication to nurturing football at all levels.
“This is the perfect age to introduce children to football as a tool for social inclusion. Among these young players, we hope to see the emergence of future stars, perhaps the next Hakimi, Ziyech, or Chebbak,” Lekjaa said.
He also expressed gratitude to FIFA for its trust in Morocco, stating, “This confidence will certainly extend through 2030 and beyond.”
Also at the ceremony, FIFA Deputy Director for Member Associations, Gelson Fernandes, commended Morocco’s unwavering passion for football and its progress in infrastructure.
“Morocco has incredible potential and a youth that lives for football. FIFA and FRMF are committed to fostering educational values alongside sports development,” he said.
The event concluded with certificates awarded to teachers who completed specialized training, reinforcing the broader goal of embedding football in the school curriculum.
With the countdown to the 2030 World Cup already underway, initiatives like FIFA For Schools reaffirm Morocco’s determination to create a lasting football legacy and inspire the champions of tomorrow.
