Rabat – Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has been recognized as the best right-back of the Champions League Round of 16, according to a recent survey conducted by French daily L’Equipe.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender was also selected for the ideal XI of this stage of the prestigious European tournament.
The survey, which followed the conclusion of the Champions League play-offs, asked fans to choose their ideal lineup from the remaining players in the competition.
Over 30,000 votes were cast, resulting in a well-balanced 4-3-3 formation with two teams dominating the selections.
Hakimi’s inclusion in the ideal XI highlights his exceptional performances during the tournament, where he has become the joint-best assist provider with five assists—tied with Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Raphinha (FC Barcelona), Charles De Ketelaere, and Davide Zappacosta (Atalanta).
Hakimi’s PSG will face Liverpool in the Round of 16, with the first leg set for March 5 and the return leg on March 11. His outstanding form has certainly made him a standout player in this year’s Champions League, solidifying his place as one of the competition’s top right-backs.
The contributions of the Moroccan international have been pivotal as Paris Saint-Germain prepares for their upcoming Round of 16 clash against Liverpool. With the first leg scheduled for March 5 and the return leg on March 11, Hakimi’s attacking threat will undoubtedly be a key asset for PSG.
“I have always sought to combine defensive solidity and offensive impact. I am lucky to play in a team where we have a lot of the ball and where I can fully contribute,” Hakimi said, reflecting on his well-rounded role in the team.
Beyond his assist tally, the 25-year-old has been a driving force in PSG’s attacking play. In the recent 7-0 demolition of Brest in the play-off round, he delivered a pinpoint cross to Nuno Mendes, further underlining his importance to Luis Enrique’s side.
“My goal is to create opportunities for my teammates in every match, to always be a danger on my side,” Hakimi added, emphasizing his continuous determination to impact the game.
