A 42-year-old French-Algerian man has been arrested in Casablanca on drug trafficking charges, following a tip-off from French authorities.
The suspect had been on the run since 2019 and was detained on Friday in a major security operation after his name was flagged in the Interpol database. France had issued a red notice for his arrest, accusing him of being a key player in a sprawling international drug syndicate.

Currently in custody, the man is now facing extradition to France, with Moroccan officials working quickly to send the necessary paperwork to secure his transfer.
In a similar case, another French-Algerian man, 37, was arrested in Marrakech last October on similar charges. The suspect was caught with the help of Moroccan intelligence services for trafficking a variety of illicit substances.
Last month, a notorious French drug kingpin known as “The Cat” has been extradited from Morocco and is set to face a court in Marseille after a bloody gang war in the city.

Félix Bingui, 34, the feared leader of the notorious “Yoda” clan, was arrested in Casablanca last March following a worldwide manhunt. He prepares to stand trial on serious charges, including drug trafficking, money laundering, and failing to declare his ill-gotten wealth.
The violence, which erupted in early 2023, began when Bingui reportedly threw a bowl of ice at a prominent member of the rival “DZ Mafia” gang in a Thai nightclub. Just months later, Bingui’s brother-in-law, Omar “Scar,” was shot dead in Spain.
Bingui fled to Morocco and was eventually tracked down by France’s Anti-Drug Office (Ofast), who successfully requested his extradition. Morocco approved the request, and the drug lord was flown back to France.
These latest operations show that Morocco is committed to fighting organized crime and stands to work closely with international partners to bring criminals to justice.
