Rabat – Moroccan Chemsdine Talbi has put an end to the uncertainty surrounding his international future.
News resurfaced that the 19-year-old midfielder from Club Brugge has decided to wear the colors of Morocco, turning down Belgium’s advances.
Belgium had shown keen interest in Talbi, hoping to see him join the Red Devils.
Reports suggest that the national technical director Vincent Mannaert, personally intervened to sway the young talent. “The federation has neglected to strengthen ties with players with dual nationality in the recent past,” Mannaert said.
“I am doing that now. I am in close contact with ‘Chems’, who I have known since he was a little boy,” Belgian newspaper De Morgen wrote.
Chemsdine Talbi was recently recognized as Brugge’s standout player for February 2025.
The Moroccan midfielder secured more than 60% of the vote, finishing well ahead of his teammate Ardon Jashari, who received 16%. Ferran Jutglà rounded out the top three with 15.5%.
His performances also earned him a spot in UEFA’s Team of the Week, where he was featured alongside Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde.
Talbi, who has been making a name for himself in the Belgian Pro League, now looks ahead to a new chapter with the Atlas Lions.
