Rabat – King Mohammed VI appointed a number of officials to constitutional institutions today, including Hassan Tariq as Morocco’s Ombudsman.
Tariq comes to the role with an extensive career in law, governance, and diplomacy.
Born in Bhalil on January 1, 1974, he navigated political and academic spheres with a steady commitment to public service.
His most recent position as Morocco’s ambassador to Tunisia since 2019 placed him at the center of diplomatic action.
With a PhD in public law from Rabat’s Mohammed V University, he has also played a key role in academia, coordinating a network of public law and political science department heads in Morocco.
His career in public administration began in 1997 as a tax inspector at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He later transitioned to advisory duties for the government, working with the Secretary of State for Youth in 2002.
Between 2011 and 2016, he was a member of parliament and provided valuable input towards legislative activity on justice, legislation, and human rights.
As Ombudsman, Tariq assumes the overarching responsibility of connecting citizens with institutions.
His background positions him to strengthen these institutions’ mechanisms, expand mediation efforts, and enhance the administration-public relationship.
Alongside Tariq’s appointment, King Mohammed VI named Abdelkader Amara as President of the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council and Mohamed Benalilou as President of the National Authority for Integrity, Prevention, and the Fight Against Corruption.
