Rabat – The United Arab Emirates has officially announced that Eid al Fitr 2025 will begin on Sunday, March 30, marking the end of Ramadan.
The announcement, made by Emirates News Agency (WAM), follows the observation of the moon, which confirms the absence of the Shawwal crescent moon.
Eid Al Fitr is an important occasion in the UAE, and for Muslim countries in general, celebrated with a mix of religious devotion, cultural traditions, and family gatherings.
The day begins with the Eid prayer, performed in mosques and designated outdoor prayer areas across the country. Families dress in their finest clothing, often new or traditional attire, and exchange greetings of “Eid Mubarak.”
One of the cherished customs of Eid in the UAE is “Eidiyah,” the giving of money to children as a token of joy and prosperity. The practice symbolizes blessings and is often accompanied by small gifts.
Homes are decorated in anticipation of the holiday, and communal feasts bring together relatives and friends. Popular dishes include “ouzi”, a slow-cooked rice and meat dish, as well as sweets such as luqaimat, deep-fried dumplings drizzled with date syrup.
Women and girls frequently adorn their hands with intricate henna designs, a tradition that adds to the festive atmosphere. Beauty salons are often fully booked in the days leading up to Eid as many seek to take part in this custom.
Public spaces, including malls and streets, are decorated with festive lights, lanterns, and crescent moon motifs, complementing the celebratory mood of the country.
Eid al-Fitr is also a time for charitable giving, as many take part in acts of kindness and donations to ensure that those in need can share in the joy of the occasion.
As the UAE prepares for the holiday, the spirit of gratitude and unity remains central to the celebrations.
