Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology announced today that heavy rainfall and locally strong wind gusts are expected from Friday to Sunday in several provinces across the country.
A weather alert forecasts heavy rainfall ranging from 20 to 40 millimeters between Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. in the provinces of Chefchaouen and Ouezzane.
Rainfall between 40 and 70 millimeters is expected in the provinces of Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Errachidia, Midelt, Taroudant, and Azilal from Friday at 3 p.m. to Saturday at 11 p.m.
Rain between 30 and 50 millimeters is forecast between Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 6 a.m. in the provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Rehmana, Kouribga, and Kelaat Sraghana
Locally strong winds with dusts, reaching speeds of 75 to 90 kilometers per hour, are expected from Friday at 11 a.m. to Saturday at 6 p.m. in the provinces of Guercif, Oujda-Angad, Taouirt, Jerada, Figuig, Boulemane, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, and Midelt.
These recent waves of downpour are expected to further revive Morocco’s agriculture sector, which witnessed a brief comfort in March after a few weeks or more of rainfall that affected several Moroccan provinces.
The rainfall also revived Morocco’s water sources as authorities across the country decried the devastating consequences of a six-year drought crisis.
Morocco had introduced several measures to address the deepening water crisis, including the historic cancellation of Eid Al Adha sacrifice rituals.
One of the latest decisions that the North African country announced is to ban the slaughter of female sheep and goats until the end of March 2026.
The long period of drought impacted the national herd, resulting in a 38% decrease in livestock numbers compared to 2016.
