Rabat – A French delegation led by Michael Delafosse, mayor of Montpellier, is on a visit to Morocco to explore avenues of cooperation.

The visit started on Monday, with a mission to promote the contributions of actors from the Montpellier region, according to a statement from the French Embassy in Rabat.

On Monday, the delegation visited Fez to attend the signing ceremony of the new twinning protocol between Montpellier and Fez.

The delegation also visited Mohamed Ben Abdellah University of Fez to explore academic partnerships between the Moroccan institution and the Polytech and the Institut Agro of Montpellier.

The Montpellier representative visited the International Agriculture Fair of Morocco in Meknes, meeting with economic actors.

Today’s delegation agenda includes a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita as well as representatives from the green mobility company MGH Energy and the commissioner of the Morocco Gaming Expo.

Delafosse announced the programming of the Arabesques Festival 2025 in Montpellier, with a special focus on Morocco.

The event is dedicated to celebrating and highlighting the cultural richness and artistic diversity of the Arab world, the statement said.

Today the mayor will visit Tangier to meet his counterpart Mounir Laymouri, and tomorrow he will visit Casablanca to attend the signing of an agreement between the French Institute and Halle Tropisme.

The agreement aims to support a project on electronic music and sustainable fashion.

The visit comes as Morocco and France are keen to strengthen their bilateral ties at all levels.

A statement from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said today that Minister Delegate in charge of Foreign Trade and French Citizens, Laurent Saint Martin will visit Morocco on Thursday.

According to the statement, the French official will reconvey Paris’ support for Morocco’s hosting of the 2030 World Cup through the launch of a French-Moroccan Committee to back the North African country’s preparation campaign.
