Rabat – The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level weather alert warning of an incoming heatwave expected to last from Monday to Wednesday.Â
The weather authority forecasts temperatures to range between 38 and 45 degrees Celsius across various parts of the country during this period.
Some areas will experience extreme heat between 42Â and 45 Celcius, including Taounate, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Ouezzane, Larache, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Smara, Tata, Zagora, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane.
This will also affect Kelaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Khemisset, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, and Moulay Yacoub.
Other areas will also see high temperatures, though slightly lower, ranging from 38 to 42 degrees. These include the provinces of Guelmim, Taroudant, Ben Slimane, Berrechid, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Sale, Skhirat-Temara, Sidi Bennour, El Youssoufia, Meknes, Errachidia, Khenifra, Fez, Guercif, and Taza.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during the heatwave, stay well hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours, and ensure the safety of children, elderly people, and those with health conditions.
This latest heatwave comes after a period of relatively stable and pleasant weather across much of Morocco, especially during the Eid Al Adha holiday.
Just last month, the country experienced a stretch of unstable conditions, including unusually early heatwaves, thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds that affected daily life.
