ENGIE North Africa has appointed Rik De Buyserie as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Loïc Jaegert-Huber.

The leadership change marks a new phase for the company as it sharpens its focus on sustainable energy development across North Africa.

In a statement following the announcement, De Buyserie expressed his deep sense of responsibility.

“I am truly honored to lead ENGIE North Africa at this pivotal time,” he said. “Our goal is clear, to strengthen our role in building energy solutions that serve both local needs and the Group’s broader global mission. North Africa holds enormous potential, and we will move forward with our partners to support its energy transition.”

De Buyserie steps into the role with over 30 years of experience inside the ENGIE Group. His career path reflects both depth and range, from energy production and infrastructure to human resources and large-scale organizational transformation.

Most recently, he held the role of Regional Vice-President for Transformation & Geographies in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. In that capacity, he oversaw operations in Morocco and Egypt.

Before returning to the region, De Buyserie led ENGIE’s business in Australia and New Zealand between 2022 and 2025.

There, he directed electricity generation and distribution to retail customers. Earlier, from 2018 to 2022, he served as CEO of ENGIE Energia Perú, while also coordinating the Group’s activities in Colombia and overseeing regional support functions across Latin America.

His academic background includes a degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Ghent University, along with executive education at INSEAD.

The company also paid tribute to outgoing CEO Loïc Jaegert-Huber, whose tenure saw the successful execution of several major projects.

His leadership paved the way for ENGIE’s current scope in the region and paved it for growth.

With De Buyserie now at the helm, ENGIE North Africa says they it is turning a new page shaped by regional ambition, long-term partnership, and a firm commitment to sustainable energy.

This comes at a time when the North African country is seeking to boost its energy transition strategy in response to climate change.
